Missing a tooth has become common as there are many factors that are likely to cause this. These factors may include a fall, an accident, and a few other reasons thus propelling a need for a denture and dental implants.  However, making a choice between these two restorations has become a huge concern. So, we thought to guide you through each decision you should take. Keep on reading.

Do you need a dental restoration

Before going ahead to tell you the differences between a dental implant and denture, you need to ask yourself if you need any of the two. You can lose your confidence when dealing with a missing tooth/teeth. So a missing tooth or teeth are the basic reasons why you would want a restorative device.

Aside from having a missing tooth/teeth, your gums are exposed, they are prone to bacteria and can lead to other gum diseases. Also, missing teeth can affect the position of your jaw and facial framework.

Dentures Versus Dental Implants?

The word false-teeth is simultaneously used for this restoration. They are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth and are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Dentures are removable appliances and come with various designs. On a few occasions, they rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or dental implants.

There are majorly two types of dentures, full or complete dentures and partial dentures. Complete dentures are incorporated when all the teeth are missing while partial dentures are used when not all the teeth are missing.

On the other hand, the dental implant(s) are/is surgical components that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. In simple terms, consider dental implants as an alternate root to anchor a crown.

With the above descriptions, thoughts about your choice may have begun settling in. While there are a few advantages to using a denture or an implant, there are a few reasons why you would choose a dental implant to dentures.

Dentures need high maintenance. They are removable and are expected to be kept neatly. While implants are fixed, they follow the same procedures you need to keep your oral hygiene perfect. They are non-removable and are more durable.

Nonetheless, both appliances have different cost implications. Dental implants are more expensive than dentures. Moreso, Dental implants are often a popular choice for people who have only one or two teeth missing, but they can be an alternative to dentures if you have several missing teeth. As long as your gums and jaw are healthy, two or more implants can serve as a base of support for several replacement teeth.

Being a removable appliance, dentures have often fallen off causing embarrassing moments but with dental implants, you need not worry as they are rooted in your jaw.  Also, dental implants are more comfortable more and look more natural than dentures. The truth is, if you truly want no one or yourself to feel like you have no missing tooth, then dental implants are best for you.
